BAUHAUS is going to build on the plot next to IKEA on the other side of the railroad tracks. BAUHAUS consists of a DIY-shop, a garden centre, and a drive-in for voluminous and heavy construction material. The type of activity and the building volume make BAUHAUS fit in with the planned functions of business park Vathorst.
The German construction market BAUHAUS was founded in 1960 in Mannheim. The company expanded beyond the national borders in 1972 and presently has about 260 locations in 19 European countries. The first site in the Netherlands opened at the end of 2014 in Groningen. At the moment a new location is being constructed in Hengelo, and in due time construction of a third shop in Venlo will start.
Preliminary design Bauhaus
Fourth city in the Netherlands for BAUHAUS
Councilman Hans Buijtelaar (Vathorst/allotments): ‘Amersfoort will be the fourth city in the Netherlands to host a BAUHAUS. This isn’t just good news for home improvers, it will also stimulate employment. Experience at other BAUHAUS locations shows that an establishment procures about 140 direct jobs and around 100 indirect ones, such as in cleaning and security services’. Construction of the Amersfoort location will start after completing the required procedures.
Mr Özer, project manager Real Estate for Bauhaus: ‘Amersfoort is located in the heart of the Netherlands. This central position and the extended servicing reach in the surrounding area make it very attractive for the Bauhaus specialised stores. The new location in Vathorst is easily accessible thanks to its position along highway A1. This ease of access saves customers traveling time, which in its turn has a positive effect on the environment’.
